XH558 Personal thoughts of a VTTS Volunteer

Dear reader,

Welcome to the #twitterVforce blog and thank you for coming to read a blog by a fellow admirer of XH558.

I was passed the link to read this yesterday afternoon and I automatically contacted the author to gain permission to reproduce it on my blog, to which I am sincerely grateful. (You can follow her on twitter – @_TheBlackWatch)

I know that as you read this that you will find parts that you can relate to. I was extremely touched by the inclusion of a few words on the #twitterVforce team – you all know who you are and I add my own personal thanks to you all for helping to make it a great forum for people to revel in their thoughts, experiences, photographs and stories.

One thing that I always try to make people remember was that the entire V force was initially designed to deliver Weapons of Mass Destruction.

XH558 – Beautiful but Deadly

“I really don’t know how to start writing this, but I really need to talk about it.

If you’re reading this because I told you to via Twitter then you’re probably going to be more likely to understand why I’m posting this… if you just one of my k-pop followers… Your probably gonna be confused… Sorry guys, this one is intended for the Avgeeks of the world!

As most of you now know, 2013 will be Avro Vulcan XH558’s last flying season. When I heard the news, I had to pause for a few minutes. It didn’t quite sink in that she wasn’t going to fly anymore. It sounds silly, but she means so much to me. My dad was the one who broke the news to me, I felt a lump in my throat and I won’t lie, I started to well up. As I’m writing this, I’m welling up. I don’t want it to end. I don’t want her flying life to end.

XH558 has been a huge part of my life. She’s helped me gain so many friends who accept me and share my passion for aviation.

I’ve seen her make grown men weep, and I’ve seen hundreds of people’s jaws drop in awe. The feeling of seeing that is unreal.

I love working in the hangar, where I can work next to her for 8 hours and meet a whole bunch of new, passionate, and fascinating people. It’s simple and it makes me happy.

I love the #twitterVforce. I love each and every member of that group. They’re amazing, supportive and genuine people! I can’t express my gratitude to them enough. They’ve kept me strong when times are rough and sometimes they don’t even know it! I’m incredibly glad to hear that Rod and the #twitterVforce team will be as strong as ever even after her flying life does end!

Working with XH558 has been life changing for me, I’m extremely proud to have been a supporter and I’m beyond proud to be able to say “I work with her.”

I have loved every single minute of supporting her and I wish it could carry on forever.

I want to thank everyone who has been involved with her and everyone who has supported me whilst working with her.

I will certainly miss the beautiful tin triangle flying so gracefully through our skies!”

If you read this, thank you.

Now, Keep Calm and Support #twitterVforce

Have a good weekend.
